A machinist will operate manually controlled and computer numerically controlled (CNC) machine tools such as lathes and milling machines, to cut and produce precision parts for machines, instruments, and tools. They control the machinery that produces the speed and cuts to create a specific part. The machinist will also be responsible for performing basic maintenance on the machines and replacing dull or aged parts as necessary.

Essential Duties

  • Plans for each day's machining by studying blueprints, engineering plans, and materials.
  • Analyzes information and finds the best solutions to problems.
  • Programs CNC mills and lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points.
  • Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling, and thread-chasing operations.
  • Adhering to safety procedures and regulations to ensure safe operations.
  • Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance.
  • Continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions in our internal electronic system.
  • Confers with engineers, production, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.

Qualifications

  • Ability to operate and program CNC mills or lathe.
  • Proficient computer and technical skills.

Physical Demands
