Position Summary

We are seeking a 2nd Shift Machinist (4-10's) to work out of our Milwaukee Service Center. This position is responsible for setup, adjustment, and operation of a combination of machines such vertical turning lathes, horizontal milling machines, engine lathes, radial drills presses, and grinders. This employee will, also, perform progressive machining operations on a diversified line of generator and turbine parts and components. You will work from complicated engineering drawings and specifications to machine and fabricate parts and tooling. Moderate supervision is given on assignments and set-ups may be checked. Perform own inspection and documentation of finished product.

Essential Duties

  • Operate and adjust machine tools where operations are recognized as standard machining practices.
  • Perform setups involving the aligning and securing of large and/or irregular work pieces.
  • Work from instructions where speeds and feeds, operational sequences and tooling usually are prescribed but employee may select or vary some to compensate for materials, conditions or variations on standard procedures.
  • Grind and adapt tooling and attachments for special work requirements.
  • Assist with diagnosing and rectifying tooling problems and machine malfunctions as necessary.
  • Perform basic maintenance and care on equipment as needed.
  • Work from engineering drawings, instruction sheets, process drawings and procedures, via shop baggies.
  • Complete signoffs and documentation relevant to work execution and in process dimensioning.
  • Use a variety of precision measuring instruments to inspect finished parts and components.
  • Follow and comply with all safety and work rules and regulations.

Education and Required Experience

  • Trade or vocational schooling related to machining preferred.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in machine shop practices and techniques.
  • Ability to use geometry, algebra, and trigonometric principles together with the use of engineering drawings, specifications, and tables.
  • Requires a working knowledge of shop practices and machining fundamentals as acquired through vocational training and/or experience.
  • Must have the ability to properly operate overhead crane and lift trucks.
  • Judgment is needed for the difficult setups, and selection of tooling and fixturing.
  • Ability to comprehend machining practices and techniques for fabricating generator and large turbine parts and components of various designs.

The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Distance vision and Ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee frequently is required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to work in high, precarious places, and risk of shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme heat, extreme cold and wet, humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud.
