Overview & Responsibilities

The Big Picture

Ever wanted to work with extreme temperatures and high-stakes rotating equipment? As a Cryogenic Assembler, you'll build and test Cryodynamic pumps and expanders-critical components that operate in some of the most demanding conditions imaginable. From sub-assembly to hydro-testing to electrical validation, you'll be the one who brings these complex machines to life. If you're precise, hands-on, and ready to work with both heat and cold, this is your opportunity.

What You'll Do Day-to-Day

Assembly & Build

  • Receive parts and sub-assemblies in your work area
  • Work from drawings, bills of material, and assembly forms
  • Assemble cryo machinery following specified procedures
  • Maintain exact dimensions and clearances
  • Record settings and initial forms
  • Heat material for shrink fits
  • Heat and/or freeze parts or material for assembly as required
  • Mount couplings on shafts

Hydrostatic Testing

  • Prepare pumps and expanders for hydro testing by:
    • Assembling and aligning components
    • Installing gaskets, O-rings, and studs
    • Tightening studs to specified torque
  • Hydro test pumps and expanders using various test pressures and procedures

Electrical Testing

  • Perform electrical tests on assembled pumps per drawing and ITP (Inspection Test Plan) requirements
  • Conduct any special tests as required

Troubleshooting & Repair

  • Disassemble cryo apparatus as needed
  • Locate trouble or malfunctions
  • Check various parts for damage as indicated on section reports
  • Remove and replace bearing liners as needed

Finishing & Preparation

  • Grind burrs from material as needed for assembly
  • Perform bluing checks for hubs, bearings, splits, etc.
  • Prepare units for shipment

Material Handling & Rigging

  • Use hoist, unlimited pendant, and overhead crane(s) as required
  • Occasionally perform crane hooking
  • Operate riding work saver as needed

Documentation & Quality

  • Log and record replenishments, servicing, and assembly diary entries
  • Report production count, time, and identifying data using data collection machines
  • Report defective material and equipment to supervision

Safety & Housekeeping

  • Maintain good housekeeping-keep tools, materials, and equipment in proper places
  • Operate fire protection equipment as required
  • Observe all safety rules

A Note on This Role

The above reflects the general details needed to describe the principal functions of this job. It's not an exhaustive list-because cryogenic assembly is complex, and every pump or expander can bring something new.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be able and willing to work 1st (7am-3pm), 2nd (3pm-11pm), and 3rd (11pm-7am) shifts. Shifts are not guaranteed and are subject to realignment.
