The Assembler #1 will assemble components into sub-assemblies and perform final assembly of Aircraft and Crew-served weapons. Perform minor changeovers, maintain set-up and operate a variety of equipment such as arbor and hydraulic straightening presses, paint spray booths, parts washers, etc. Degrease, clean and oil weapon components using various types of chemical cleaners, oils, hot water, etc. Follow established company directives and policies, military specifications, process sheet operations, and instructions.

Responsibilities-

Disassemble and reassemble test fired weapons and components of all crew-served weapons. Ensure appropriate interchange of sub-assembly components through a constant awareness of required tolerance and fit of mating parts. Assist Assembler Specialist(s) or other Assembler #1(s), in training and upgrading skills of employees in the Assembly Department.

Perform rework and final qualifying operations on sub-assemblies and assemblies to comply with stringent internal and government final inspection requirements. Use precision functional gages, alignment and work holding fixtures, pneumatic tools, drill presses, riveters, etc.

Perform fitting and rework tasks, such as grinding, filling, drilling, etc. Blend mismatched and irregular surfaces to final gaging tolerances and perform other fitting and rework tasks. Use hand tools such as pneumatic and hand type abrasive tools, wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, mallets, etc. Will pay close attention to the class of fit created by processes such as riveting or heat treating that cause warping, shrinkage, etc., as these are problems that effect shrinkage, etc.

Maintain and record weapons data, inventory and serial number identification. Must be constantly aware of security requirements associated with all weapons and adhere to those requirements.

Physical requirements involve the heavy lifting, washing, and degreasing of weapons. Must have physical ability to lift, move, adjust, etc. items weighing approximately 35 lbs. on a production basis. Practice safety and good housekeeping policies and procedures.

  • Must be a qualified Assembler #2 that is knowledgeable and capable of performing all tasks and duties of an Assembler #2. May be required to perform other duties as required by supervision and follows instructions as directed.
  • All employees are expected to be in compliance with government and corporate laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Qualifications-

Education, Training, and/or Certifications:

Required:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. required.

Experience

Required:

  • Employee must have basic computer skills, and may be required to enter and verify information into written forms or database(s) as appropriate.
  • Average eighteen (18) months. Includes over one (1) year through two (2) years.

Required:

Knowledge:

  • Requires the ability to use a variety of ordinary machine tools and precision measuring instruments.
  • Successful completion of Aircraft Assembly basic classes required.
  • Successful completion of the written and practical test for Assembler #1.
  • Knowledge of general riveting operations is required.

Skills


  • Excellent blueprint reading skills, shop math skills, and proficiency with a wide variety of precision measuring tools required.
  • Able to be constantly aware of security and foreign object debris hazards.
  • Employee must have basic computer skills, and may be required to enter and verify information into written forms or database(s) as appropriate.
