Crane Aerospace and Electronics has an exciting opportunity for a Conventional Machinist for our Burbank location.

First Shift Hours are Monday-Friday, 5:30 AM to 2:00 PM. Overtime may adjust start time (e.g., 4:30 AM for extended overtime) and/or extend end time. Flexibility to work overtime and weekends as required.

Job Summary

The Conventional Machinist I has some knowledge on setting up and operating a variety of conventional machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments including fabricating, modifying, or repairing mechanical instruments. The Conventional Machinist I may also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.

Essential Functions:

β€’ Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as conventional lathes, milling machines, shapers, grinders, or drill press

β€’ Communicate with engineering, supervisory, or manufacturing personnel to exchange technical information

β€’ Measure, examine, and test completed units to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measurement instruments

β€’ Set up, adjust, and operate all of the conventional machine tools, drill presses and many specialized or advanced variation tools to perform precision machining operations

β€’ Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and materials into machines

β€’ Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process

β€’ Study sample parts, blueprints, and drawings to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products up to geometric dimensional tolerances

β€’ Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work

β€’ Listen to operating machines or equipment in order to detect machine malfunctions and compensate for problems

β€’ Any other task assigned by supervisor or management

Minimum Qualifications:

β€’ Experience: 1+ year training in conventional machining involving both on-the-job experience and informal training

β€’ Knowledge: Knowledge of various inspection equipment i.e. micrometers, calipers, height gages; Knowledge of safety procedures and regulations; Knowledge of Geometric Dimensional Tolerancing; Understanding of cutting tool Geometry; Knowledge of tooling and coordination

β€’ Skills/Abilities: Able to work quickly and efficiently through Process Improvement structure; Good verbal and written communication; Strong attention to detail and accurate record keeping

β€’ Education/Certification: High School Diploma or equivalent

β€’ Eligibility Requirement: This position may require access to Controlled Data or Information. Where the position requires such access only US Persons will be considered. As a US Department of Defense contractor, we are bound by International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

Preferred Qualifications:

β€’ Experience in Aerospace industry

β€’ Machine shop class(es) at local junior colleges

β€’ Understanding of basic Math, Geometry and Trigonometry

Working Conditions:

β€’ Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment

β€’ Manufacturing operations may require the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to: eye safety glasses, gowning, masks, hearing protectors, heel/wrist straps and any other required PPE

β€’ May be exposed to unusual environmental conditions such as loud noises, cold temperatures, confined spaces, dust or fumes

β€’ Flexible and willing to work overtime if necessary

Pushing (in pounds): up to 40 pounds

Mental/Visual: use of microscope and computer.

Workspace (line, cube, etc.): clean bench

Hourly range: $24.87 to $31.74. Several factors contribute to actual salary, including experience in a similar role or performing comparable job responsibilities, skills, training, and other qualifications. Some roles maybe eligible for participation in performance-based bonus programs.
