Job Description

Electrician - Nuclear

A Nuclear Electrician is a highly skilled professional responsible for the safe installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures within a nuclear facility. This role requires a deep understanding of electrical systems to ensure the precise and reliable operation of critical equipment. You will install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, ensuring all work complies with relevant codes. Must be able to obtain nuclear unescorted access, including meeting fitness for duty requirements.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform all job duties safely according to requirements.
  • Install and start up switchgear, motor control units, motors, and generators.
  • Assist in pulling wire and cable.
  • Utilize trade tools effectively.
  • Cut, thread, and bend conduit.
  • Fabricate wire ways, supports, and hangers.
  • Install various panel devices.
  • Install conduit systems.
  • Install grounding and bonding systems.
  • Read and interpret blueprints.
  • Perform cleanup duties.
  • Terminate three-phase motors (high and low voltage).
  • Conduct material takeoff from blueprints.
  • Connect transformers properly.
  • Layout jobs from blueprints.
  • Splice and terminate wires per procedural requirements.
  • Perform checkout, meg wire, wire identification, and tagging.
  • Install lighting systems.
  • Conduct Live-Dead-Live checks.
  • Install complete control panels.
  • Perform pre-startup maintenance on motors.
  • Troubleshoot control and lighting systems.
  • Install plastic (PVC) conduit.
  • Demonstrate proper use and care of test equipment.
  • Install bussing systems.
  • Apply craft-related math skills.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of experience.
  • Prior nuclear power plant experience, highly desired.
  • Must be able to obtain nuclear unescorted access, including fitness for duty requirements.
  • Successful completion of all training including, Radiation Worker Training, Plant Access Training, Fitness for Duty, etc.
  • Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to assemble and disassemble objects and operate small equipment and power tools.
  • Availability for shift work, if needed.
  • Ability to support other crafts as requested.
  • Ability to work at varying heights, in cramped quarters, extreme heat and/or cold, and loud environments (above 89 decibels).
  • Knowledge of relevant processes and procedures.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain knowledge of technical manuals and procedures.
  • Ability to pass specific training and qualifications.
  • Willingness to work overtime, including shift work, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Ability to pass all background and screening requirements, including drug and/or alcohol screening.
Physical Demands:
