Job Overview
The Equipment Operator is responsible for operating heavy machinery in support of daily production and site operations. This role plays a critical part in maintaining efficient, safe, and compliant operations through equipment operation related to composting, material handling, and site maintenance. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong mechanical aptitude, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced industrial environment.
Essential Job Functions
- Operate heavy equipment in support of day to day production activities.
- Operate construction and site equipment, including, but not limited to, excavators, front end loaders, yard trucks, and other heavy machinery.
- Perform required pre operation and post operation equipment inspections.
- Monitor equipment performance and report mechanical issues or safety concerns promptly.
- Maintain a safe and orderly work area in compliance with company safety policies.
- Support plant operations through special projects and additional assigned duties.
- Comply with all safety, environmental, and operational procedures.
- Other duties as assigned
What You Need:
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Vocational training or apprenticeship preferred.
- Experience or familiarity with compost operations is a plus but not required.
- Prior experience operating heavy machinery in an industrial or construction environment preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of heavy equipment operation and capabilities.
- Mechanical aptitude, including experience with pumps and valves preferred.
- Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve equipment issues.
- Strong communication skills and ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Self motivated with a positive attitude and strong work ethic.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Certifications
- Valid driver's license- Required.
- Equipment operation or vocational certifications- Preferred
Physical Requirement
- Prolonged periods of operating heavy machinery.
- Ability to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends, when necessary.
- Ability to operate equipment in all weather conditions and terrain types.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, sit, climb, bend, and stoop as required by the role.
