Summary

Maverick is seeking a Head Fleet Mechanic ("HFM") to ensure the smooth & reliable operation of our fleet of diesel engines and vehicles. The HFM will be responsible for inspecting, repairing, and maintaining diesel engines and vehicles, ensuring they operate efficiently and safely. You will work with various heavy-duty trucks and construction equipment. Your expertise will be vital in diagnosing and resolving mechanical issues as well as performing regular maintenance tasks to keep the diesel-powered vehicles in optimal working condition.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough inspections of diesel engines and vehicles to identify mechanical problems, worn-out parts, and potential performance issues.
  • Identify the root causes of mechanical problems, such as engine malfunctions, brake issues, transmission problems, and electrical faults.
  • Create work orders based upon self-inspection or driver reports. Perform repairs and scheduled maintenance tasks, including engine overhauls, fuel system repairs, brake replacements, suspension repairs, etc.
  • Ensure that all repairs and maintenance tasks comply with safety and environmental regulations, as well as manufacturer guidelines.
  • Keep detailed records of repairs, maintenance activities, and parts used for each vehicle or equipment, updating service logs and computer databases as necessary.
  • Conduct performance tests and quality checks after completing repairs or maintenance to verify that the vehicles meet safety and performance standards.
  • Follow safety protocols and guidelines when working on diesel engines and vehicles. Keep the workshop clean and organized for a safe working environment.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, and clients, providing updates on repair progress and advising on maintenance recommendations.
  • Stay up-to-date with advancements in diesel engine technology and attend training sessions to enhance technical knowledge and skills.
  • All other tasks as assigned by management.

  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Physical strength and dexterity to handle heavy equipment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a vocational or technical program in diesel mechanics is preferred.
  • 5+ yrs experience as a diesel mechanic, with a strong understanding of diesel engines and related systems.
  • Proficient in using diagnostic tools, hand and power tools, and specialized equipment for diesel engine repairs.
  • Basic computer skills including MS Office.
  • Familiarity with fleet management software including work orders creation, pm tracking, parts ordering, etc.
  • Willingness to work in various weather conditions and sometimes in confined spaces.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license required, CDL a plus.
  • Successful completion of drug & alcohol and background check requirements.
