Due to continued growth, we’re looking for a Head of Market Compliance to join our Regulation & Compliance department here at Drax.

As the Head of Market Compliance, you’ll be responsible for Drax’s second line of defence (2LoD) in relation to physical, financial and GB customer energy market related compliance, ensuring we remain in line with our UK and, where applicable, EU regulatory requirements.

Reporting to the Group Regulation & Compliance Director, you’ll play an integral role in leading the development and continual improvement of policy and assurance processes to help support the delivery of Drax’s strategy, as well as helping to shape a progressive compliance culture across the organisation.

About the role


As the Head of Market Compliance, you’ll be responsible for developing a multi-year compliance strategy covering all GB energy market related activities, maintaining our licence to operate whilst preparing the business for expansion into new technologies and markets.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Support the development of Drax’s growth strategy, including the FlexGen portfolio, the future of Drax Power Station and the development of energy services offerings (e.g. asset management, EV fleet management, SMART/MHHS readiness, NESO/DSO service provision, etc.).
  • Ensure the team provides effective, consistent advice, guidance, training and assurance on existing and forthcoming obligations within the GB energy market regulatory landscape.
  • Develop and continually improve internal market policy framework (wholesale and retail), in line with latest guidance and regulatory/policy changes, working closely with the Regulation and Policy teams.
  • Lead compliance risk evaluation activities and develop appropriate mitigation strategies, keeping senior leaders informed (across multiple disciplines) and taking a lead in proactive/collaborative risk mitigation.
  • Lead internal investigations and associated regulatory interactions (traded market, customer fraud, consumer impact, etc.) across wholesale and retail
  • Represent Drax and build relationships at external events, including trade body committees and forums.

Who we’re looking for: 
To be successful in this role you’ll ideally have…  

  • Excellent working knowledge of compliance programme development and improvement within Energy, Power, Utility or related sectors.
  • In-depth knowledge of UK and EU market regulatory requirements – ideally wholesale and retail.
  • Proven experience of representing multi-discipline teams at senior leadership meetings and committees.
  • Ability to manage multiple conflicting priorities whilst driving strategic change.
  • Ability to communicate across a wide range of stakeholders across a corporate organisation.
