As a Host at SSP within the Hospitality & Travel department, you will be the first point of contact for guests, creating a welcoming and efficient experience in a dynamic travel-focused environment. Representing SSP and reflecting the safety- and security-focused culture of Smiths Detection, you will greet guests warmly as they arrive, manage reservations and walk-in traffic, and coordinate seating to ensure an efficient flow in the dining area. You will answer questions about the menu and services, provide clear directions within the venue or wider travel hub, and communicate wait times accurately and courteously.
Working closely with servers, kitchen staff, and managers, you will maintain an organized front-of-house area, oversee the waitlist, and use reservation or point-of-sale systems to check guests in and track table status. You will assist with basic guest inquiries related to travel schedules, terminal or concourse locations, and safety guidelines when appropriate, always maintaining a calm and professional demeanor in a fast-paced setting. You will help keep entry and waiting areas clean, orderly, and aligned with safety and security standards, reporting any issues promptly.
In this role, you are expected to deliver consistently high levels of customer service by anticipating guest needs, addressing complaints or concerns politely, and escalating issues to management when necessary. You will contribute to an inclusive, collaborative workplace by supporting your colleagues during peak periods, participating in training, and embracing new processes or technologies that enhance guest experience and operational safety. This position offers exposure to operations in a global travel and security-focused environment, giving you insight into how hospitality, safety, and efficient guest flow intersect in busy transportation hubs.
The ideal candidate is friendly, reliable, comfortable standing and walking for extended periods, and capable of multitasking under pressure while maintaining attention to detail and adherence to safety and security procedures.
