Position Purpose
• Under the general direction of the Manufacturing Manager perform a normal range of metal preparation, prime and finish painting operations on pump parts, sub-assemblies and assembled pumps of various sizes and models.

Key Responsibilities
• Operate from work orders, written and verbal instructions, national standard procedures, and direction from Supervisor, to prepare, prime and finish painting operations on pump parts, sub-assemblies and assembled pumps of various sizes and models.
• Operate various equipment, machinery and tools which consist of paint spraying units, paint booth, overhead crane, paint brushes, sanders, grinders, scrapers, hand and power wire brushes, masking tape and paper, cleaning solvents, grease, oil, steel wool, paint, paint thinner, and a variety of miscellaneous hand tools and materials pertinent to cleaning and painting.
• Determine type of blast to perform and type of paint to apply by reading job operation listing.
• Move pump parts from yard to spray booth with lift truck and overhead hoist. Use hand and power wire brush scrapers, solvents, etc., to prepare metal for painting operations. Tape and mask unit to protect areas not to be painted. Set up painting equipment, adjust spray guns, clean, thoroughly stir paint, fill paint tanks and add thinner as required. Stamp a metal tag with job name and job number and attach to parts for identification purposes.
• Determine and perform thickness of coating (2 color or 3 color) from coatings manufacturer recommendations or from Engineering job specifications. Spray paint prime, and/or finish with epoxy 2-part coating process. Mix paint to match non-standard colors and perform touch-up and cleaning as assigned. Clean paint line by running thinner through prior to mixing and changing color. Assist in loading finished pumps on to skids.
• Manually log the amount of VOC (volatile organic compound content) sprayed each day using the listing from paint coatings manufacturer. Follow procedures for storage, usage and disposal of paint.
• Detect and report faulty operations, defective material and equipment, work order or written instruction discrepancies, and other unusual conditions to proper Supervisor.
• Maintain equipment and workplace in neat and orderly condition. Make out time and production reports manually or enter prescribed information into designed data input terminal.
• Observe all safety and ISO 9001:14001 requirements.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education, Experience and Skills
Minimum of 5 years experience as an industrial painter.

Physical Demands & Work Environment
The work requires considerable and strenuous physical exertion such as frequent lifting, pushing or pulling of heavy objects over 50 pounds. The work involves moderate risks or discomforts requiring special safety precautions, e.g. working around moving parts, moving equipment (i.e. forklifts), rotating equipment or machines. Routine use of personal protective equipment is required and adherence to all safety precautions.
