About the Role

Support students with special needs in K-12 school settings. Instructional Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Instructional Support: Works with small groups of students in an instructional capacity such as assisting students (individually or in groups) with lesson assignments.
  • Environment Management: Assists in maintaining an appropriate classroom environment in order to ensure a safe and positive learning experience.
  • Monitoring: Monitors individual students in the classroom, library, or during playground activities to ensure a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Activity Assistance: Monitors and assists students during various classroom activities (examples: art, literacy, fine motor skills, bathrooming).
  • Clerical Tasks: Assists with clerical duties such as record keeping, typing, duplicating, and using a variety of instructional media, office machines, and equipment.
  • Relationship Building: Establishes and maintains a cooperative relationship with parents, students, and teachers.

Instructional Assistant Qualifications:

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Experience

    Prior experience in a school or treatment setting, working with students needing learning, social, emotional, or behavioral assistance.
  • Preferred Experience: Knowledge of general concepts of child growth and development and child behavior characteristics, general purposes and goals of public education, and techniques used in motivating students.
  • Clearances: Criminal and DCF background check
  • Technical Skills: Proficient with standard software applications and the internet.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Personal Qualities: Reliability, dependability, and flexibility are crucial.
  • Other: Must be at least 18 years of age.

Physical Demands:

  • Environment: Occasional exposure to dust, pollen, and fumes.
  • Activity: Frequent engagement in tasks such as reaching, handling, standing, walking, and lifting items, with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Sensory: Ability to perform essential job functions with or without assistive devices or accommodations, including working in moderate to high noise levels.
