We're looking for a Maintenance Operative to join our HS2 team based in Rushden.


Location

Rushden, working on HS2 sites across Wendover, Buckinghamshire to Southam, Warwickshire
Hours: Monday – Friday 08:00 to 17:00 - some flexibility on hours available if desired, just let us know when you speak to us.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our facilities team supporting the HS2 project. As a Maintenance Operative, you'll be delivering planned, reactive, and emergency maintenance across a range of buildings and compounds. This varied role combines general building fabric maintenance with plumbing tasks, offering you the chance to use your practical skills across multiple sites. You'll be part of a supportive team that values collaboration and quality service delivery.


What will you be responsible for?


As a Maintenance Operative, you'll be working within the facilities team, supporting them in maintaining safe, compliant, and operational buildings across the HS2 project sites. Your day to day will include:



  • Installing, repairing, and maintaining plumbing systems, fixtures, and appliances within the compounds

  • Carrying out general building fabric maintenance, including carpentry and handyman tasks

  • Completing weekly and monthly PPMs such as fire alarm testing, fire extinguisher checks, emergency light testing, and legionnaires checks

  • Responding to reactive maintenance requests, resolving issues efficiently and professionally

  • Conducting routine inspections to ensure all buildings remain safe and compliant with health and safety regulations


What are we looking for?


This role of Maintenance Operative is great for you if:



  • You have proven experience in building maintenance, particularly plumbing and fabric maintenance

  • You hold valid Water Regulations (WRAS) and legionnaires certification

  • You possess strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills across both plumbing and general fabric tasks

  • You have a full driving licence and are comfortable travelling between sites

  • You can work independently, manage a varied workload, and are comfortable using mobile job tracking software
