The Department of Pediatrics seeks to hire an Adolescent Medicine physician to join the Adolescent Medicine Section within the Division of General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine (GPAM) at the University of North Carolina. Applicants should be board-certified or board-eligible in Adolescent Medicine. This position is an open-rank, fixed-term faculty appointment in the School of Medicine at UNC Chapel Hill. As a faculty member, the individual will join a multidisciplinary section that includes board-certified Adolescent Medicine physicians, nurse practitioners, Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSWs), and pediatricians with a strong interest in adolescent health. Clinical responsibilities focus primarily on outpatient adolescent medicine care, provided in Raleigh and/or Chapel Hill clinical settings. Inpatient consultative care is delivered on an as-needed basis, with plans for expansion as the section continues to grow.

The Adolescent Medicine Section also offers opportunities to:

  • Provide medical care in youth detention centers

  • Deliver care within a youth psychiatric inpatient facility

  • Collaborate in a Hematology-Adolescent Medicine clinic supporting reproductive healthcare for patients with possible bleeding disorders and other hematologic conditions

  • Partner with the UNC Center for Excellence for Eating Disorders, housed within the Department of Psychiatry

Academic, Research, & Teaching Opportunities

In addition to clinical programs, GPAM has a nationally recognized record of excellence in research and education. Division-wide research focuses include the impact of social and contextual factors on health, childhood adversity, and health inequities.

Research interests within the Adolescent Medicine Section include:

  • Adolescent consent and confidentiality in telehealth

  • Decision-making tools for contraceptive care

  • Reproductive health autonomy

  • Global health and HIV prevention

  • Eating disorders treatment outcomes and quality improvement

Opportunities for broader adolescent health research are available through collaboration with the Gillings School of Global Public Health and the Sheps Center for Health Services Research. Faculty may also participate in medical education, including medical student and resident teaching, curriculum development, and supervision of clinical rotations. Additional opportunities exist to develop and participate in other outpatient specialty collaborative clinics based on program growth and faculty interests.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Completion of post-residency fellowship training in Adolescent Medicine

  • Board certification or board eligibility in Adolescent Medicine

  • Eligibility for medical licensure in the state of North Carolina
