Reston Hospital Center, part of the HCA Virginia Health System, is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse for the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU). In this role, you will provide high‑acuity, evidence‑based nursing care to adult patients requiring advanced cardiovascular and cardiothoracic critical care, including those recovering from CABG and valve surgeries, vascular procedures, advanced cardiac interventions, and patients with complex hemodynamic instability. As a key member of the Healthcare & Medical Services department, you will collaborate closely with intensivists, cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapists, and other members of the interdisciplinary team to deliver patient‑centric care that reflects HCA’s culture of compassion, ethics, and collaboration.
The CVICU Registered Nurse will be responsible for comprehensive assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care for a small number of critically ill patients. You will manage and interpret invasive hemodynamic monitoring, titrate vasoactive drips, administer blood products and high‑risk medications safely, and respond rapidly to changes in patient condition, including participating in codes and emergency interventions. You will utilize advanced clinical judgment to recognize subtle changes in cardiovascular status, employ critical thinking skills in high‑pressure situations, and escalate care appropriately to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
In this position, you will use and maintain a variety of critical care technologies, such as ventilators, arterial lines, central venous catheters, Swan‑Ganz catheters, temporary pacemakers, chest tubes, and cardiac rhythm monitoring systems. You will follow unit and hospital protocols, infection prevention standards, and patient safety initiatives, including adherence to core measures and best practices for post‑operative cardiac and vascular patients. Accurate, timely documentation within the electronic health record and clear communication with physicians, colleagues, patients, and families are essential components of the role.
The Registered Nurse CVICU will actively participate in patient and family education regarding disease processes, post‑operative expectations, medications, lifestyle modifications, and discharge planning, helping to ensure a smooth transition across the continuum of care. You will contribute to a supportive and collaborative environment by precepting new staff as needed, engaging in shared governance or unit‑based councils, and supporting quality improvement initiatives that enhance clinical outcomes, patient experience, and staff satisfaction.
