Rigger role supporting construction and industrial lifting operations, responsible for setting up, testing, using, and dismantling rigging for heavy lifts. W. O. GRUBB is hiring for an onsite position in Ampthill, VA, working with hoists, winches and cranes under direct supervision, often with long hours and possible weekends/holidays. Standout requirement is proven 1β3 years heavy lift/crane rigging experience with strong safety focus.

Responsibilities
β’ Signal or verbally direct workers engaged in hoisting and moving loads, in order to ensure safety of workers and materials.
β’ Test rigging to ensure safety and reliability.
β’ Attach loads to rigging to provide support or prepare them for moving, using hand and power tools.
β’ Select gear such as cables, pulleys, and winches, according to load weights and sizes, facilities, and work schedules.
β’ Tilt, dip, and turn suspended loads to maneuver over, under, and/or around obstacles, using multi-point suspension techniques.
β’ Align, level, and anchor machinery.
β’ Manipulate rigging lines, hoists, and pulling gear to move or support materials such as heavy equipment.
β’ Clean and dress machine surfaces and component parts.
β’ Attach pulleys and blocks to fixed overhead structures such as beams, ceilings, and gin pole booms, using bolts and clamps.
β’ Dismantle and store rigging equipment after use.
β’ Familiar with heavy lift plans and procedures.
β’ Assists with the set-up of crane.
β’ Ability to read, interpret and follow procedures. Competent in reading and understanding specifications, drawings, and all other discipline related project and engineering documentation.
β’ Engaged in splicing ropes and metal cables to form hoisting slings.
β’ Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
Essential:
β’ Must have 1-3 years of crane rigging or heavy lift experience.
β’ Must have proficient oral and written communication skills.
β’ Possess a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
β’ Must be able to pass a drug test, background check, and fit for duty test.
Desired:
β’ Prefer candidates with at least an associate's degree and 1-3 years of rigging experience.
β’ Safety training and certification preferred.
