The Traffic Engineer is responsible for the development, management, and oversight the City's traffic operations. traffic issues related to new development projects, as well as serving as the primary contact for citizens and neighborhoods on traffic related issues. independently within professional guidelines of policies and procedures. Serves in an advisory capacity in all traffic matters such as traffic signs, traffic signals, pavement markings and lighting in accordance with the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control devices and other applicable Facilitates citizen and neighborhood requests and serves as the Contract Administration. interlocal agreements, engineering contracts, and other agreements/contracts. Provides training and policy guidance to engineers and design professionals in the preparation of these documents. documents with adjoining cities, Johnson County, Mid America Regional Council Project Management. Monitors construction contractor activities and progress to deliver projects that meet or exceed high quality standards, on schedule, and within budget. Serves as the traffic engineering expert in cross departmental plan review for private development and capital projects. Reviews all new traffic engineering plans for compliance with federal and state laws, City specifications and the Municipal Code.

Continuously discusses projects with the affected public and primary and sub-contractors. Responds to citizen inquiries on traffic and/or pavement engineering questions.

A Bachelor's degree with course work in Civil Engineering is required. * A minimum of four (4) years' experience in project management, engineering Traffic engineering experience is Registration as Professional Engineer in the State of Kansas or the ability Registration as a Professional Traffic Operations Engineer is preferred.

This position generally works eight hour days, Monday through Friday (excluding holidays) with a one hour lunch.
