POSITION The City of Kent is excited to welcome a motivated Transportation Engineering Intern to join our Public Works Transportation Engineering team for the summer. This full-time internship offers hands-on experience supporting real-world transportation and public works projects that make a direct impact on our growing community. Working alongside experienced Traffic Engineers and Transportation Planners, the intern will contribute to data collection, transportation engineering efforts, and updates to key city documents. This is an excellent opportunity for a Junior or Senior-level student pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering or Transportation Planning who is eager to apply their academic knowledge in a practical, professional setting. WAGE AND HOURS The hourly pay range for this position is $24.00-25.00 DOE. This full-time position requires 40 hours per week, with work performed in the office between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Data collection outside the office may be required between the hours of 5:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Consideration of alternative schedules and work hours will be given to students enrolled in summer classes. This is a full-time summer internship position. REQUIREMENTS Enrollment The preferred candidates will have Junior/Senior standing, pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering or Transportation Planning. Desired Qualifications Applicants should possess the following: Good organizational skills, attention to detail, and teamwork skills Flexibility and ability to work independently Good computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint; ArcGIS preferred) Good communication skills Ability to type on keyboard, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and occasionally lift or move up to 30 pounds Ability to work outdoors, sometimes in inclement weather A current and valid Driver’s License and ability to pass a pre-employment driver’s record check. DUTIES Duties performed will include assisting Traffic Engineers and Transportation Planners with data collection and preparation of engineering or planning documents. Work may include assisting the City in updating transportation facilities inventories and preparing and reviewing sections of planning documents including the Transportation Master Plan, the Americans with Disabilities Act Transition Plan, or other documents.
