BLS California RN License CWON (Certified Wound Ostomy Nurse) Job Details
Functions as the clinical resource for patients and staff for ostomy, continence disorders, acute and chronic wound and skin breakdown, and fistulae. Provides direct wound and ostomy care in the inpatient and outpatient setting. Provides patient/family teaching and instruction of wound and ostomy management both pre and post-operatively. Assists the healthcare team in the evaluation of skin and wound products and equipment. Provides educational programs, in-services, and bedside teaching for the nursing staff. Stays up-to-date with skin care practices and shares advances in wound and skin care assessments, evaluations, treatments, and prevention measures. Assesses all patients with a pressure injury staged at Three (3) or above. Sees all patients that have developed a hospital-acquired pressure injury (HAPI) and meets appropriate reporting requirements. Assesses overall hospital needs and practices to eliminate HAPIs. A minimum of Four (4) years of clinical experience. Demonstrates initiative and strong interpersonal skills. Exhibits knowledge of infection control and patient safety protocols. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills. Exemplifies strong job knowledge, patient counseling, and business acumen. Maintains trust and accountability in professional relationships. Demonstrates ability to handle technology and equipment relevant to wound and ostomy care.
