Summary of Job Duties: The Department of Art and Design seeks a committed educator to serve a 1-Year Visiting appointment in a generalist Graphic Design curriculum. Candidates should have knowledge of a di-verse range of approaches in the field of graphic design. The successful candidate will teach introductory courses in Graphic Design, including those serving as Foundations courses for both Graphic Design and Studio Art majors. Candidates with emphasis in typography, branding, and publication design will be viewed favorably. The position is responsible for 24 contract hours annually (a 3/2 teaching load). The Art Department at UAFS offers a B.A. in Studio Art, a B.S. in Graphic Design, and minors in Art His-tory and Studio Art. S. in Graphic Design at UAFS boasts an active alumni network and strong job placement rates. It is housed within the Windgate Art & Design building, home to robust facilities for Design, Book Arts and Letterpress, Printmaking, Digital Photography, Drawing, and Painting. The position reports to Art Department Head. Qualifications: Required Education and/or Work Experience: Terminal degree in Graphic Design, or related fields preferred; notable equivalent experience with a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design or related fields may be considered in extraordinary circumstances. Documented creative/professional practice in Design. Experience teaching at the college or university level. Preferred Education and/or Work Experience: Area of expertise is open; those with interests or training in more than one subject area are preferred. Ability to draw curricular connections between Graphic Design and Book Arts, Art History, and/or Studio art preferred. Membership in professional organizations related to field of expertise is preferred. Teach lower-level courses in graphic design and related courses, including Foundations; A commitment to inclusive teaching practices, with specific knowledge of such practices’ implications for pedagogy and professional training in Graphic Design Knowledge of the historical and cultural context with which the candidate’s work and teaching engages. Maintain productive working relationships with students, faculty, and staff of diverse backgrounds Implement a variety of teaching methods, with potential teaching in diverse instructional modalities Responsible for maintaining a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner to foster teamwork and by providing leadership to subordinates. Diverse knowledge in the field of Graphic Design; Knowledge and experience with assessment of student learning in the discipline, as well as in general education. Works with a dynamic team of diverse faculty, staff, and students in a collaborative and growth-oriented environment. Frequent contact with faculty and staff from other colleges and University entities, outside organizations, and the general public. Ability to accommodate multiple teaching modalities and respond to a variety of student learning styles. Occasional travel may be required. Work hours are dependent upon teaching load, office hours, and other duties as assigned. Work week is typically Monday through Friday.
