Utility Welder / Mechanic

Job Summary


We are seeking a skilled and versatile Utility Mechanic to support operations by maintaining, repairing, and fabricating a wide range of equipment and infrastructure. This position requires hands-on expertise in welding, generator and mechanical equipment repair, and facility installation tasks such as darkroom construction. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, mechanically inclined, and capable of working independently on diverse tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities


  • Perform mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance on various equipment including generators, compressors, pumps, and specialty tools.
  • Weld, fabricate, and modify metal structures, supports, brackets, and enclosures as needed.
  • Install and maintain darkrooms and similar specialty spaces, including layout, framing, plumbing, electrical, and ventilation components.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repairs.
  • Operate and maintain shop tools and equipment in a safe and effective manner.
  • Assist with general facility upkeep, including plumbing, lighting, and basic construction work.
  • Respond to maintenance emergencies or urgent equipment failures.
  • Ensure all work complies with safety regulations and company standards.

Qualifications


  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certification in welding or mechanical repair is a plus.
  • Proven experience in welding (MIG, TIG, or Stick) and general fabrication.
  • Strong knowledge of small engine and generator maintenance and repair.
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Skilled in the use of hand and power tools.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
  • Valid driver's license; ability to travel to job sites as needed.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs, stand or kneel for extended periods, and work in various environmental conditions.
  • Comfortable working in confined spaces or elevated areas.
