Responsible for using expert knowledge to operate and control computer numerically controlled (CNC) machines. Maintain knowledge of G & M codes and input them into CNC machines for production, while ensuring products have precise and accurate measurements.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Under the direction of a supervisor and/or experienced machinist, responsible for quality parts produced on CNC machines such as, but not limited, to lathes and milling machines in a timely, safe and efficient manner.
  • Operate, perform set-up changes and first article inspections on production runs utilizing CNC Machines.
  • Load parts utilizing overhead lifting equipment, proving tapes, operating controls, setting offsets, simple edits, deburring and inspection of quality parts for conformance to requirements.
  • Identify problems before production runs, then start and observe machine operation to detect any other malfunctions or out-of-tolerance conditions, and adjust machine controls or control media as required.
  • Read blueprints, precision measuring instruments and job orders to determine dimensions, tolerance and tooling requirements.
  • Maintain knowledge of dimensions and tolerances for tooling instructions such as fixtures, feed rates, cutting speeds, depth of cut and cutting tools to be used.
  • Prove out new programs and make simple edits of CNC programs on at least one or more numerically controlled machines.
  • Keep equipment and work area clean and orderly and perform basic preventative maintenance functions on equipment.
  • Perform other work related tasks as assigned.
  • Comply with all NOV Company and HSE policies and procedures.

FACILITY/GROUP SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operate forklift as needed
  • Operate Overhead Cranes

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent combination or education and experience
  • Robotic palletizer knowledge and troubleshooting is a plus
  • Robotic CNC loading knowledge and troubleshooting is a plus

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Verifies proper quality documents and other paperwork is present prior to start of work
  • Completes Dimensional reports and machine logs for all items machined
  • Operates a forklift and lifting devices for movement of parts
  • Communicates with supervisor, planners, engineers, production control, quality and other shop personnel as it relates to the job
  • Necessary PPE should be worn at all times as per JHA and task requirement
  • Responsible for keeping equipment and work area clean and orderly and perform basic preventative maintenance functions on equipment
  • May perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Lifting 40 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 40 pounds

  • Knowledge of measurement instruments
  • Basic Computer knowledge
  • Working knowledge of various tool holders, cutting tools, boring bars, and insert used on various machines
  • Robotic palletizer and Robotic CNC loading equipment knowledge and troubleshooting
  • Advanced knowledge of reading drawings and specifications with an understanding of geometric tolerancing and dimensions
  • Advanced knowledge of precision measuring instruments and the application of such instruments. Instruments should include but not limited to calipers, ID/OD micrometers, depth gages, indicators and tape measures
  • Advanced knowledge of understanding programmed segments and corresponding operations
