We are seeking a Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team! As a Heavy Equipment Mechanic, you will perform a variety of tasks including but not limited to: diagnose, adjust, repair, or overhaul mobile mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment, such as cranes, bulldozers, graders, conveyors, sheers, and balers.

Mechanical Knowledge (Must Have):

Repair and replace damaged or worn parts. Test mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturers' specifications. Operate and inspect machines or heavy equipment to diagnose defects. Dismantle and reassemble heavy equipment using hoists and hand tools. Overhaul and test machines or equipment to ensure operating efficiency. Adjust, maintain, and repair or replace subassemblies, such as transmissions and crawler heads, using hand tools, jacks, and cranes. Repair, rewire, and troubleshoot electrical systems. Diagnose faults or malfunctions to determine required repairs, using engine diagnostic equipment such as computerized test equipment and calibration devices. Examine parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges. Weld or solder broken parts and structural members, using electric or gas welders and soldering tools. Research, order, and maintain parts inventory for services and repairs. Fit bearings to adjust, repair, or overhaul mobile mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment. Schedule maintenance for industrial machines and equipment and keep equipment service records. Clean, lubricate, and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment and vehicles. Clean parts by spraying them with grease solvent or immersing them in tanks of solvent. Adjust and maintain industrial machinery, using control and regulating devices. Fabricate needed parts or items from sheet metal. Direct workers who are assembling or disassembling equipment or cleaning parts.

High school diploma preferred and/or previous work-related skill, knowledge, or experience. Five years performing the duties of an Equipment Mechanic in the California state service, at least two years of which shall have included experience on gasoline and diesel-powered heavy equipment.

Knowledge of: Methods, materials, tools and equipment used in a mechanical trade, assembly, overhaul, repair and adjustment of gas and diesel-powered trucks, heavy construction and maintenance of equipment; operating characteristics of heavy construction and maintenance of equipment; gas and diesel-powered trucks; Ability to: Read and write English at a level required for successful job performance; fabricate, repair and make adjustments to various equipment and systems (i.e., equipment maintenance, gas and diesel powered trucks, etc.); install and test pumps, motors and similar equipment; perform welding; work from drawings and sketches and make sketches of broken parts for replacement; and make repairs in the field without supervision.

Able to troubleshoot, analyze, and problem-solve by seeing the big picture and apply what he/she has learned to future projects. Must be flexible and able to adapt to changing organizational needs. Ability to maintain a positive appearance and attitude throughout the workday. Must be reliable and timely for the scheduled shift.

Current California driver's license, valid vehicle registration and insurance required for driving on company business

Work is generally performed in an outdoor environment, with standard heavy mechanical equipment. Department Operations FLSA Status: Hourly, Full-Time

Pay Range: $30.00 - $45.00 per hour (depending on experience) Health and dental coverage (100% for employees, 50% for dependents) PTO and paid holidays
