A leading employee-owned multidisciplinary engineering consultancy is looking to appoint a Highway / Infrastructure Design Engineer to join its growing transport and infrastructure design team in Manchester. This is an excellent opportunity to work on a diverse range of highway, active travel and infrastructure projects, supporting schemes from concept and feasibility through to detailed design and construction delivery.

The Opportunity Joining a highly regarded engineering design team, you will contribute to the planning, design and delivery of transport infrastructure projects that improve how people and goods move through the built environment.

The team works across highway, active travel and development infrastructure schemes, providing technical design, stakeholder engagement and construction support services for a broad range of public and private sector clients.

Key responsibilities include:

Preparing detailed highway, active travel and infrastructure designs. Supporting projects through technical approval processes. Producing highway approval submissions including Section 278 and Section 38 agreements. Assisting with drainage and infrastructure design, including awareness of Section 104 and Section 106 processes. Developing construction-ready designs using industry-standard software. Supporting project delivery from feasibility and concept stages through to implementation. Working closely with clients, local authorities and multidisciplinary design teams. Preparing technical documentation and maintaining design records. Delivering work to agreed budgets, programmes and quality standards.

Requirements Experience producing highway and infrastructure design solutions within a consultancy environment. Experience preparing detailed designs for highway, active travel and infrastructure projects. Knowledge of Section 278 and Section 38 highway approval processes. Awareness of Section 104 and Section 106 agreements. Good understanding of DMRB, Manual for Streets, LTN 1/20 and relevant design standards. Experience using AutoCAD, Civil 3D and associated design software. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work both independently and within a collaborative team environment. Membership of ICE, CIHT or equivalent professional institution preferred.
