Overview
The Lead Co-Worker Health Nurse is responsible for coordinating Co-Worker Health processes and procedures, working closely with Co-Worker Health leaders and staff, Workers’ Compensation, Infectious Disease, and other departments we serve at Mercy. This role performs related duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with Mercy’s mission, values, and service standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day administrative and operational activities of the Co-Worker Health team.

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory agencies related to clinical operations.

  • Collaborate with outside resources for program development.

  • Administer oversight of drug and alcohol screenings as needed.

  • Coordinate with Co-Worker Health leader, nurses, Medical Review Officer, and staff to maintain relevant policies and procedures.

  • Communicate policy and procedure updates with other Mercy work groups such as Infection Prevention, Workers’ Compensation, or Mercy policy committees.

  • Ensure Co-Worker Health team has current PPE and training.

  • Represent Co-Worker Health on committees such as ICC, Nursing Governance, Disaster Planning, and Environment of Care.

  • Lead education efforts for the Co-Worker Health team in immunizations, proper administration, and potential side effects.

  • Maintain updated forms and documentation.

  • Function as a Co-Worker Health nurse as needed to process new hire paperwork.

  • Provide preventive health services to co-workers and volunteers (e.g., blood pressure checks, temperature screenings).

  • Serve as ReadySet Superuser/Trainer for the department.

  • Manage inventory and supply ordering.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Workers’ Compensation

  • Assist Workers’ Compensation coordinator in care synchronization related to co-worker exposures, including ordering prophylaxis under the Co-Worker Health Medical Director.

  • Represent Mercy as a subject matter expert.

  • Lead projects to prevent workplace exposures.

  • Operate as liaison for Co-Worker Health.

Infectious Disease

  • Coordinate care for co-workers exposed to communicable diseases in conjunction with Infection Control.

  • Represent Co-Worker Health on infectious disease committees and task forces.

  • Maintain communication with Infectious Disease department to share trends and seek resolutions to protect co-workers and patients.

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Education: Graduate of a state-approved nursing school.

  • Licensure: Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the appropriate state.

  • Experience

    Two years as an RN.

  • Certification/Registration: Three years clinical experience and current Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association.

  • Other Skills & Knowledge: Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred.

  • Experience

    Emergency Room, Infectious Disease, Employee Health, or Workers’ Compensation experience preferred.

  • Other Skills & Knowledge: Experience with Epic and Microsoft products (Word, Excel).
