Principal Activities
  • Be able to operate fixed spindle type boring lathe and accessories, boring bars, broaching machines, drilling machines, broaches, broach grinders, fixtures, holders, cutting tools and other necessary equipment, hoist-operated cranes and other lifting equipment.
  • Be able to follow verbal and written instructions; read and work to drawings, setup cards, charts and tables with or without job tag instructions.
  • Select all types of cutting tools suitable work working on all kinds of materials and on all types of cuts; properly grind cutting tools.
  • Set part to be machined in proper position or fixture, using lifting equipment as necessary; establish proper operation sequence, select boring bars, set cutting tools, select and set feeds and speeds.
  • Select, set and adjust proper broach or drill, holding fixtures and special fixtures as may be required, select proper feeds and speeds, change gears as required.
  • Load part in holding device, position work piece, properly operate machine (s) to perform proper operation(s) such as rough and finish bore, counter boring, burnishing, drilling, tapping, adjusting broach to maintain proper sizes.
  • Set up and use center distance and bore gaging equipment. Inspect, disassemble, sharpen and reassemble broaches or drills.
  • Set up and use a variety of precision measuring instruments in order to maintain dimension and tolerances as required.
  • Remove burrs and sharp edges, mark, identify, preserve and protect parts as directed.
  • Recognize and immediately correct, without assistance, machine difficulties and errors, or cause to have corrected, if fault is due to the machine, tools, equipment or material.
  • Perform above duties without assistance except on unusual or difficult jobs only. Consistently produce work of proper quality and of properly required quantity.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Use of mathematics together with the use of complicated drawings, specifications, charts, tables; various types of precision measuring instruments.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to define routine problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret basic technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form. Ability to read and understand blueprints.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The associate is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch. The associate must regularly lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. The associate may, in rare occasions lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
  • Related machining experience preferred
