Job Description

United States Steel - Granite City Works is seeking qualified machinists for our Maintenance department.

Demonstrated or documented work experience in the following areas:

  • Set up and operate; engine lathes, vertical mills, horizontal mills, and key-seater.
  • Must be able to work from a blueprint or machine parts per sample
  • Machine parts to precision tolerances
  • Able to use machinist and hand tools common to the trade
  • CNC experience a plus -
  • May work alone with minimal supervision or with other maintenance technicians.
  • Work in various areas of the plant location is required.
  • Dependent upon the area, environmental conditions can be hot, cold, dirty, greasy, wet, and noisy.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year manufacturing and/or industrial experience (including relevant experience gained in military service) or a 2 year technical degree.
  • High School Diploma or GED is required
  • The position requires you to work 8 hour rotating shifts, which will include Saturdays and Sundays, and holidays.
  • The position requires overtime work as needed.
  • Adherence to safety procedures/guidelines at all times. Safety is our core value which requires you to wear safety protection such as hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective clothing, and boots with metatarsal protection.
  • The position requires punctuality, consistent attendance and self-direction for the success of the operations.
  • Must pass assessment test(s)
  • Starting base pay rate is $34.34/hr. plus incentive pay. Pay rate increases to $36.14/hr. plus incentive pay after completion of internal training program. The starting base pay range is a good faith estimate.
