About the Role We are currently recruiting for a Validation Planning Technician to join a busy and supportive Professional Services team based in Birmingham. This is a fully office-based position with no site visits required, making it ideal for someone looking to develop their career within planning validation and development management administration.

This role is perfectly suited to someone who enjoys working in a structured, process driven environment and has strong attention to detail. You will play a key part in the validation and registration of planning applications, ensuring submissions meet national and local validation requirements within strict turnaround times.

Full training and ongoing support will be provided, offering an excellent opportunity for someone at the early stages of their planning career or with previous planning administration experience.

Key Responsibilities Validate planning applications, including Minor and Other application types, within agreed 24–48 hour turnaround targets Review planning application submissions against national and local validation requirements Assess submitted plans, documents, certificates, and supporting information for accuracy and completeness Liaise with applicants, agents, and stakeholders to request amendments or additional information where required Process additional and amended documentation relating to live applications Assist with identifying statutory consultation requirements Register and allocate planning applications in line with internal procedures Carry out basic GIS and mapping checks Maintain accurate records and update internal planning systems Respond to planning validation and registration queries in a professional manner Work within clearly defined KPIs and quality standards in a high volume environment

About You This role would suit someone who is:

Highly organised with excellent attention to detail Interested in planning, validation, and development management processes Comfortable interpreting plans, forms, and technical documentation Able to manage workloads effectively and meet strict deadlines Confident communicating with applicants and external stakeholders Process driven with a methodical approach to work Keen to learn and develop within the planning sector

Essential Requirements Previous exposure to planning, validation, administration, or a similar office-based environment Ability to read and understand basic site plans and supporting documentation Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook Strong organisational skills and attention to detail Ability to work accurately in a target driven environment Strong written and verbal communication skills

Desirable Skills Degree or studies within Town Planning or a related discipline Previous experience working within a Local Planning Authority or planning consultancy Understanding of planning application processes and validation requirements Experience using GIS or planning software systems Strong customer service skills and proactive attitude
