Job Summary

Performs all level inspections, working to prescribed tolerances, to check and approve for quality, raw materials, parts in process, paintings and coatings, heat treating (verify Brinell hardness), components, sub-assemblies, final assemblies, tooling, returned items, and parts and sub-assemblies received from subcontractors and suppliers, to meet Company standards and customer satisfaction. Inspects and certifies welds. Will follow supervisor's guidelines and company inspection procedures. Uses precision measuring instruments. Provides inspection reports and maintains required inspection records. Inspects per receiving inspection procedures for N.D.T. and receiving dock inspection.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (*Essential)

  1. Must have and maintain a current AWS-CWI certification.*
  2. Performs visual inspection and certification of welds in accordance with API-8C.*
  3. Conducts a variety of mechanical inspections, including, but not limited to, raw materials, incoming parts, and subassemblies from suppliers and subcontractors, first-run, random and final inspection working to prescribed tolerances.*
  4. Makes visual and dimensional checks of raw materials, forgings, machined and fabricated parts, components, sub-assemblies, paintings and coatings, heat treating, final assemblies, tooling and returned items to assure quality production.*
  5. May, when assigned, conduct inspection of items at outside vendors to pass on quality of processed or purchased items.*
  6. Approves items for acceptance and/or production runs.*
  7. Inspects and passes on final assemblies for shipment.*
  8. Confers with QA Manager or Supervisor/Assistant Supervisor on rejects, determining the need for rework of parts or components and other problems detected through inspection.*
  9. Uses precision measuring instruments, including micrometers, scales, calipers, and pertinent gages.*
  10. Provides inspection reports and maintains required inspection records.*
  11. Mag particle inspects castings, forgings, and weldments for receiving inspection and work in progress.*
  12. Performs dye penetrant inspection of machined parts and forgings.*
  13. Conducts visual and dimensional inspection of receiving dock inventory.*
  14. Performs in process inspection on the paint line and the galvanizing department.*
  15. Performs ultrasonic inspection,*
  16. Conducts machine shop inspection.*
  17. Performs other related duties as assigned.*

Special Location/Position Requirements:

Job Specifications (Work Experience, Skills, Abilities, etc.)

  • 3-5 years Mag and UT machine shop for measuring
  • Must have and maintain a current AWS-CWI certification
  • Ability to operate Jib cranes handling large parts safely
  • Mag certified to level II
  • UT certified to level II
  • Must operate Mag, UT and overhead hoists

Education Requirements:

High School/GED required. Vocational school preferred.

Physical Demands/Environmental Conditions:

Daily exposure to shop conditions, which are variable depending on the task assigned, but are generally dirty. Is subject to shop noise. Involves extensive standing and walking. Skin and eyes are subject to drying and irritating fumes, vapors and solutions controlled to OSHA standards. Works both in and outdoors with sometimes dusty or confining work areas when in the shop/lab.
