Job Description

Department: General Factory

Title: Welder

Reports to: Shop Supervisor

Level/Grade: "B" Grade 10

Type of Position: Full Time

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Shift: First

Job Summary

This position will weld castings and fabrications to vendor's specifications with specified rod with particular parts. Pantograph and/or cutting machine and/or sheave making classifications work operations shall be performed as required. Must be able to operate one or more machines as required to meet production and quality standards with maximum productivity.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (*Essential)

  1. Weld any type of job. Set up and operate manual and semi-automatic welding machines.*
  2. Select the best welding rod for the job to weld castings and fabrications.*
  3. Pass any tensile and code test required.*
  4. Perform work operations for pantograph and/or cutting machine and/or sheave making classifications as required.*
  5. Use prevision tools and measuring instruments; read and understand blueprints and written specifications, and use shop mathematics.*
  6. Operate one or more machines as required to meet production and quality standards.*
  7. Lift 1 to 50 pounds on a regular basis.*
  8. Stand, walk, bend over, twist, and reach to weld, put parts in fixturing, put parts in boxes after welding, and retrieve parts and equipment from other areas of the plant.*
  9. See, read, and write to comprehend safety warnings, visually observe machine functions, read instructions, and do necessary paperwork.*
  10. Communicate with supervisors, inspectors, etc.*
  11. Be able to learn and have a long term memory for machine controls and functions, measuring instrument usage, understand assembly instructions, blueprint reading/symbols, etc.*
  12. Punctuality and regular attendance are important to maintain manufacturing schedules.*
  13. Will be exposed to some dust, smoke, and fumes normal to any manufacturing environment.*

Special Location/Position Requirements:

Welder Class "A" (Grade 11)

  • Meet all qualifications for "B" Class.
  • Higher level of experience required in accordance with Company policy and progression rules.

Job Specifications (Work Experience, Skills, Abilities, etc.)
  • 2 years' relevant manufacturing experience required.
  • Ability to use shop mathematics required.

Education Requirements:

High School Diploma or equivalent.
