ob Summary: The Quality Assurance Lab Technician - will be responsible for performing detailed inspections and measurements on injection-molded components to ensure they meet product specifications and quality standards. This role involves using various metrology instruments and techniques to assess product quality, identify defects, and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities Include, but not limited to:

  1. Inspection and Testing:
    • Perform routine and specialized inspections of injection-molded parts and tooling to ensure they meet design specifications and quality standards.
    • Conduct physical and mechanical tests on samples, including dimensional, functional, and visual inspections.
    • Utilize metrology tools such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, and CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) to obtain accurate measurements.
  1. Metrology:
    • Operate and maintain metrology equipment to measure and verify product dimensions and tolerances.
    • Ensure that all measurement tools are calibrated and functioning correctly.
    • Analyze and interpret measurement data to identify trends, deviations, and areas for improvement.
  1. Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate records of inspection results, measurements, and test reports.
    • Prepare and communicate detailed reports of findings, including non-conformities and corrective actions required.
    • Provide routine communication and updates to Key Stakeholders (Program Managers, Quality and Production Personnel, Senior Management) as necessary
  1. Quality Control:
    • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to address quality issues and implement corrective and preventive actions.
    • Support the analysis of quality data to identify root causes and drive improvements in product quality.
    • Assist and support Process Quality Inspection, as necessary, to ensure product flow
  1. Compliance and Safety:
    • Ensure compliance with company quality standards, industry regulations, and safety procedures.
    • Follow established laboratory and manufacturing protocols to maintain a clean and safe working environment.
  1. Continuous Improvement:
    • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and quality improvement projects.
    • Stay updated on new metrology techniques, tools, and industry best practices.

  1. Mentoring and Training:
    • Provide mentorship and training to junior quality technicians and team members on advanced inspection techniques and metrology practices.
    • Share knowledge and best practices to foster a culture of quality excellence within the team.

Qualifications


  • 5+ years proven experience in quality control and/or metrology.
  • Strong proficiency in blueprint interpretation and understanding of GD&T
  • Proficiency in using metrology instruments and tools, such as calipers, micrometers, and CMMs.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in performing inspections and measurements.
  • Good problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze and interpret technical data.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • High School diploma or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 5+ years experience in plastics quality control
  • Ability to perform calibration on basic metrology tools, such as calipers, micrometers, drop indicators
  • Familiarity with quality management systems and industry standards (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 13485) is a plus.
  • Certification in quality control or metrology (e.g. CMM training certificates, ASQ Certified Quality Inspector) is a plus.
  • Associate's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Quality Assurance, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience with Gear measurements and techniques
  • Experience with Statistical Process Control and Statistical Process Control Software (Minitab, Measurlink, QC Calc)
