A Brief Overview

Under the direction and supervision of a Speech/Language Pathologist, assists in supplementing, enhancing, and extending speech/language therapy services by completing a variety of tasks such as, but not limited to, direct activities with patients designed to develop pre-language and language skills, oral-motor control for speech production, vocalization, and use of assistive technology devices for communication. The SLPA will also serve as a receptionist and clerical support in outpatient therapy clinic settings.

What you will do

Under the direction of a Speech Language Pathologist, provides direct patient care for speech language, voice fluency, and hearing to patients.

Demonstrates knowledge of age-specific factors and performs satisfactorily related to patient’s age infant through adult as noted on unit specific guidelines and competencies.

Documents patient progress towards meeting established treatment objectives.

Provides direct therapy services to patients using various functional settings and strategies.

Plans therapy within the patient’s individual physical, emotional and intellectual capabilities.

Communicates effectively with patient, family, physician, and other disciplinary team members regarding the patient status, progress, and needs.

Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, workshops, etc.

Participates in program development of the department.

Performs duties of receptionist and scheduler.

Greet patients and visitors and answer telephone calls promptly and courteously. Assists with cleaning and organization of therapy clinic space.

Assists in monitoring and managing therapist and patient schedules, completed and missing documentation/therapy charges and supplies.
