The Strategic Buyer secures quotations for New Product Development (NPD) projects and supplier consolidation for risk mitigation to ensure products are in alignment with strategic direction within category spend.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, RESPONSIBILITIES, & OTHER DUTIES

  • Manages the NPD sourcing to include:

  • Ordering and tracking of Engineering samples
  • Quotes all new products and maintains quote master lists by project
  • Pursues quotes from multiple sources on high $ items, for TCO analysis
  • Attends all NPD team meetings
  • Ensures preferred suppliers are involved in the design and quote processes
  • Works in collaboration with Supplier Quality to ensure that PPAP's are submitted on all new products.
  • Analyze and optimize the process related to the spend category through established procurement tools.
  • Ensure alignment between business strategy and sourcing strategy.
  • Set supplier consolidation objectives to be completed through the sourcing strategy and monitor achievement.
  • Manage all the key suppliers within the spend category.
  • Evaluate current spend and supplier data and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Support of manufacturing site requirements, leveraging spend across locations to identify and implement sourcing and process improvements to strengthen and accelerate supply chain initiatives.
  • Project and/or Program Manager activities, leading projects to meet objectives and drive operational results. Assess and adjust supply base capability and capacity to minimize potential supply disruptions.
  • Design and lead supplier transitions (Outsourcing, Insourcing, Resourcing)
  • Support cross-functional efforts to reduce costs, standardize components and consolidate supply base with lower volume spend.
  • Coordinates with Plant Planning on order quantities and inventory turn strategy to establish initial purchased cost on NPD components.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 1 year material planning in a similar environment
  • 3 experience in purchasing in a manufacturing environment, 1 year of Strategic Procurement activities
  • Associates degree in related field, Bachelors degree preferred
  • Must work well with others in a team environment
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills
  • Collaborative as opposed to prescriptive in dealing with issues
  • Highly analytical - must be able to synthesize data and establish clear direction
  • Drive to advance to a Strategic level of Procurement
