Position Summary:

Under the direction and supervision of an attending surgeon, perform a variety of physician assistant duties and technical procedures on the hospital floors, Emergency Room or other areas of the hospital to assist in the delivery of health care services to the patient. Essential Functions: Clinical Practice Provides direct and indirect patient care optimizing patient safety. Works proactively and in collaboration with other team members. Tasks: Acts as a care coordinator for surgeons, referring physicians, nursing staff, etc. Screens patients and performs complete histories and physical examinations. Orders/prescribes necessary medications, laboratory and radiologic studies, routine fluids, diets, patient activities and similar patient care orders. Performs surgical assistant responsibilities to including handling tissue, providing exposure, using instruments, suturing and tying and providing hemostasis. Respond to the Emergency Room to manage and/or assist with trauma resuscitation. Instruct patients on discharge information, home care of wounds, use of medication, diet or other aspects of health care.
